Ruth Roman was born on June 22nd, 1939, on June 22, 1939 in Lynn Massachusetts. Ruth Roman is the eldest child of Lithuanian Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold & Abraham Roman. When she was young the carnival barker father died and left her mother no option but to be a cleaning girl and waitress to provide for the family. Ruth was raised in the poor tenement district of Boston, Massachusetts, where she attended school. After only two school years, Ruth left to pursue an acting profession. This path was fraught with difficulties. After landing a gig in New York as a model for a detective magazine she found it difficult to get work on stage. While in New York, she worked at a bar as a check-in girl before quitting and moving back to Boston. She was an usherette during the early morning hours and also appeared at the New England Repertory Company by evening, her first acting position that was permanent. She graduated with a diploma in drama from Bishop-Lee Theatre School.
